What will the hotel of the future look like?
From 23 to 27 October 2018, architectureworld and Deutscher Hoteltag (German Hotel Day) will be held for the first time in Cologne as part of ORGATEC – the leading international trade fair for the modern working world. On each of the five days, the event’s organisers “Bauen & Wohnen” will offer a first-rate, comprehensive congress programme featuring a total of 24 keynote speakers and 28 project presentations. The congress trade fair is aimed at architects, engineers, construction firms, developers, building contractors and hotel chain planning departments. The event is recognised by Chambers of Architects and Engineers as further professional development.
Trade visitors can look forward to best practice executed projects, inspiring explanatory presentations of models, innovative areas of research and forward-looking talks to stimulate ideas. Each of the five congress days will centre on a specific topic. On the Saturday, the focus will be on the issue of the current direction of hotel design and what the “hotel of the future” could look like in 2030.
Andreas Rohde, Head of Business Development at TOPHOTELPROJECTS GmbH is one of the day’s speakers who will address the subject of the “hotel of the future”. Before taking up his current position, he worked for many years in the construction industry, so he knows the difficulties and obstacles as well as the opportunities that can arise in planning and executing hotel projects in particular all too well from his own experience. At the German Hotel Day event, Rohde will report on Germany’s hotel boom and explain why the country is currently home to one of the world’s strongest hotel markets: with more than 700 projects, Germany has a great deal to offer all those involved. The audience can look forward to comparisons with other hotspots around the world.
Vanessa Borkmann (Dipl.-Ing) is a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) in Stuttgart, where she is the initiator and project leader of the joint research project FutureHotel and the showcase of the same name. In her lecture, she will present trends and developments from the FutureHotel research project. These will include smart services provided through the use of technology to achieve more efficient processes in the hotel business as well as novel solutions for the use of space, such as the living lobby and the smart hotel room.
Benedikt Komarek, CEO and owner of Hotel Schani in Vienna, Austria, will report on the practical application of digital technology in the hotel trade and how hotels can continue to fully satisfy the needs of modern guests. In collaboration with the Fraunhofer IAO, he has developed a SMART Hotel featuring innovative solutions for the reservation process, check-in and check-out, the hotel room and use of the lobby.
Many other keynote speakers have joined the list of top-class contributors. They include Henning Weiß, Chief Product Officer/Member of the Strategic Board at 25hours hotels; Michael Widmann, Head of PKF International Hospitality Consulting Committees in Vienna; as well as Filippo Lodi from UN Studio in Cologne.
