Change starts in the mind:PLANT 10.1 invites you to think again

In the special event area PLANT 10.1 and in partnership with the consultants detecon, the creative agency Orange Council and international artists, ORGATEC 2018 will demonstrate the benefits of integrating culture into the work environment and what that means for office design. Seven experience scenarios in the centre of Hall 10.1 will challenge trade visitors to ORGATEC from all over the world to question traditional assumptions and to completely rethink ways of working and envisage activity-based working. And because successful changes start in the mind, PLANT 10.1 will offer more than just new ideas for office design. It will be accompanied by a series of lectures and workshops that will invite visitors to open their minds to new ideas.

On the Crash course in design thinking, trade visitors will learn how to solve problems and develop products and services that deliver real benefits. Participants in the interactive workshop The most employable person in the future is... will learn about modern learning strategies and how to position themselves successfully for their future careers.

Anyone who wants to design their job around their own likes and dislikes can do just that in the Lego SeriousPlay workshop. Lego SeriousPlay is an interactive method for improving communication, visualising different perspectives and reaching a shared understanding. It can also be used for product development and prototyping. With the aid of an illustrative example, visitors will be able to try out the core elements of the method. Mindfulness is a personal tool for the digital age. Trade visitors can learn about this technique in a Taster course at ORGATEC 2018. In a blend of lectures and exercises, both sides of the brain will be tested: valuable information about the origins and effects of mindfulness and its practice will be presented to the left side, while the right side will be stimulated by practical exercises and reflection.

Anyone frustrated by long and unproductive meetings will certainly get their money’s worth from How to lead meetings that don’t suck. This workshop will present small tools for facilitating the creative process, decision-making and planning that will free up more time for participants to get on with their own work.

The PLANT 10.1 special event area will be complemented by hands-on talks from senior business leaders with in-depth experience of working with change processes, including the Leadership and Organisation Coach and Co-founder of the Nuremberg-based think tank humanfy, Markus Väth. In addition, Birte Moye, Senior Manager Marketing, Communication and Brand Management at Bosch subsidiary grow platform GmbH, will be appearing. The line-up also features Dirk Smikale, who leads the “innogize our work” programme at innogy SE, based in Essen, and who has been in charge of designing a culture of agile working since 2015. For him company culture means creating a new way of working that fosters innovation. He firmly believes that “Motivated and trained employees are part of this culture. It is a culture based on concrete and tangible behavioural changes delivering more agility, flexibility and individuality and supported by an activity-based work environment and technology.”

For Diana Winzer the office is the only tangible and visible component of culture. The Senior Project Manager at the e-commerce giant Otto is leading the internal project SPACE, which is creating completely new working environments in OTTO offices. She is convinced that our environment shapes thinking and behaviour, and hence can play a major role in cultural development or change. “It therefore has a direct effect on company results and strategic growth,” she says.

They will all be speaking in the PLANT 10.1 event area about their experiences with cultural change in their organisations and giving advice on strategic change management. Other speakers include Anika Eva Paul from VW, Presenter and Film Producer Silke Luinstra, Marko Müller, Founder of Innovation Radicals, and Bastian Unterberg, Founder of the online platform jovoto, which specialises in marketing creative ideas. Additional high-calibre speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
